It's Been a While...

It has been about a month since I last blogged, so sorry! Here is a quick recap of what I have been up to:

New Years - Together As One

feat. Afrojack, Laidback Luke, Markus Schulz, Wolfgang Gartner, Dada Life, Richard Vission, Swedish Egil, Major Lazer, Diplo, Jack Beats, Rusko, Nero, Pendulum, and more

 Overall I'd have to say this LA massive was a let down. After months of planning and excitement to finally see my favorite DJ of all time, I was extremely disappointed when I was stuck in a 2 hour mob just to enter the grounds. I could barely make out the speck that was Afrojack because I was a football field away from him and any time I tried to move closer I met an elbow in the face. Insomniac & GoVentures definitely oversold this show and it made it very un-enjoyable for all. Dada Life played the same set as Nocturnal & their San Diego Halloween show. Because there was no room to breathe, we were stuck outside in the freezing cold for most of the night. However, Wolfgang kicked ass.. as always.

Sebastian Ingrosso & special guest Steve Angello @ Avalon

This was my 2nd time seeing Ingrosso at Avalon and I was impressed that he completely switched up his set and brought out Angello for a guest appearance. The show didn't seem as overly packed as usual and the crowd seemed classier than the normal "raver" types. SHM never lets their fans down and I had an amazing night!

Just a little RUSH

The music video to Christopher Lawrence's new single A Little Rush featuring Suzie del Vecchio was just released. The cool part? My boyfriend is a friend of Suzie's and she asked us to play the couple in the video which was really fun, especially getting to hangout at a famous trance DJ's Hollywood home! The song is super catchy too.

Steve Angello @ Avalon

Saturday night was my second time seeing Steve Angello, the most talented member (in my opinion) of power group Swedish House Mafia. I knew I was in for a long, wild night when he didn't come on stage until 1:30 am! Opening with Miami 2 Ibiza, Avalon was at capacity. A friend of mine waited in line for two and a half hours and still got turned away.. that's just how hot Angello tix are these days. The crowd went crazy when Steve announced "LA, I fucking love you. That's why I moved here, that's why I live here!"

 Of course he played all the crowd favorites such as One and Teenage Crime, but I was pleasantly surprised by several songs I had never heard before. He introduced me to my current fave Toca's Miracle (Inpetto 2008 remix) by Fragma --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ko-V7FCHJvA

When 3 am was approaching, Steve held up the mic and let everyone know that "You're in for a long night, please stay with me til the end" but was unexpectedly shut down by the fire marshall two hours later at 5 am (my legs were tired anways). After three and a half hours of play time, he was upset that he couldn't go until Avalon's close time of 8 am... now that's dedication. Another absolutely amazing show for the books! He later tweeted "Los Angeles I think we have to move to something that won't shut, won't have problems, won't close, I think - my house as in my house".

A note to Angello: I'm ready to party at your house whenever you give me the address :)

David F*cking Guetta

Saturday night at The Hollywood Palladium David Guetta, the #2 DJ in the world, put on a show to remember. Manufactured Superstars opened (never a let down) and the audience was in shock when at 1am Guetta announced a surprise guest, none other than Will.I.Am!

Guetta's two hour set featured all of his chart-topping hits including When Love Takes Over, Sexy Bitch, and One Love. He announced to thousand of LA fans that this was his final show of the "One Love" Tour and then continued to play a brand new track featuring Rihanna, Who's That Chick.

The entire backdrop of the stage was filled with colorful LED lights spelling out "DAVID GUETTA" and "HOUSE MUSIC", but what really proved Guetta's show to be one-of-a-kind were the 15 foot lazer-shooting robots.

And just when I thought the show couldn't get any cooler, Guetta whips out a few remixed Black Eyed Pea's songs while Will.I.Am freestyled live on stage with auto-tune! 

Guetta has officially taken the underground world of EDM to a new level, in which he incorporates house with popular hip-hop jams, bringing thousands of new fans to the world of raves. The end results of this futuristic show affirmed Guetta's elaborate imagination and unmistakable talent. No wonder he beat Tiesto out of the #2 spot.

Sebastian Ingrosso, Max Vangeli, and AN21 Show at Avalon

It's been a busy week and I've barely had a minute to breathe, let alone blog about the amazing show I attended on Saturday, but now I finally have a few minutes. Before last weekend, I had seen both other members of Swedish House Mafia: Axwell and Steve Angello. I was told Ingrosso never disappoints and I was told CORRECTLY. There really aren't words to describe how awesome the entire night was. I didn't recognize one song during Max Vangelli's set but I loved the Latin feel. Ingrosso played 3 hours of everything off SHM's new compilation Until One. I unfortunately did not get to catch AN21's set because my legs were in so much pain from the 5-6 hours of standing/dancing I had already endured. Yeah, I know, I'm getting old but cut me some slack.. I was SOBER! Everybody was going wild jumping around and dancing their asses off. The sound system at Avalon is never a let-down, the bass bumps so hard that once the show ends it takes hours to get the ringing out of your ears. In fact I couldn't fall asleep til' around 5 am cause of that damn ringing but it was definitely worth it.

Heaven & Hell Halloween Music Festival

On Saturday night I attended the Heaven & Hell Halloween Music Festival & Costume Party featuring three of my favorite DJs: Wolfgang Gartner, Dada Life, & Fedde Le Grand. Although there were numerous other impressive Halloween events going on in the LA area, such as HARD, I opted to drive down to San Diego solely because I fell in love with Dada Life when I saw them at Nocturnal back in September. Even though I heard that there were some amazing sets at HARD (props to Diplo & Crookers), I'm very happy with the choice I made!

Del Mar Fairgrounds turned out to be a really great venue for the event. There were two large indoor stages: one Heaven themed & one Hell. Then there was a smaller outdoor stage surrounded by food vendors and seating. The first stage we entered was Heaven where Dada Life was about to begin. There were two go-go dancers fully adorned in angel "clothing" and blue lights flashing onto the pool of 20 to 30 year-olds ready to get their dance on. I must also add that I was really impressed with the crowd's costumes! From start to end, Dada Life never failed to bring top energy. They peeled back banana after banana, chomping down on the fruit while spinning hits such as Hello (remix of Martin Solveig & Dragonette), Cookies with a Smile and even their brand new jam Unleash the F*cking Dada. I was hoping they wouldn't spin the exact same set as they did at Nocturnal and they did not let me down!

Unfortunately, Wolfgang Gartner and Fedde Le Grand had the exact same set times, so we decided to start off with Fedde (Heaven Stage) and move to Wolfgang (Hell Stage). I was only able to hear about 20 minutes of Fedde's set, but those 20 minutes left a lasting impression. I had never seen him before but knew that he was a house legend. He brought the energy and stage presence that was expected of him & the bass bumped hard. I would love to have the chance to see his full set sometime in the future. I was eager to check out the Hell Stage where Wolfgang was already getting down to business. His stage seemed a little more crowded than Fedde's which truly surprised me. When I first saw Wolfgang in August at the Avalon, I had never heard of him before. Since then, I have downloaded and overplayed many of his songs. My favorites of the night were Animal Rights and Wolfgang's 5th Symphony. I was a little disappointed that he didn't play Undertaker, but I am going to see him again on New Years so I'll let that one slide.

Overall fantastic night & I look forward to filling you all in on the upcoming Sebastian Ingrosso, Max Vangeli, & An21 show I'll be attending this Saturday at the Avalon.


*P.S. Just saw Swedish House Mafia's new documentary Take One last night and was not impressed. The videography was boring and all three members (Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Steve Angello) all came out looking like pompous a-holes. Here's a link to the trailer: Take One
